my work

I’ve been writing for most of my adult life. The dream (as yet unfulfilled): to be a published novelist. The reality: I’ve been able to make money from my writing and I’ve had the joy of helping young people express their wild and lovely thoughts. So I carry on, and I’m not giving up on the dream.

do not weep

This is my second novel, and I like it! I submitted an excerpt of Do Not Weep to the Ohio Arts Council and won an Individual Excellence Award for Fiscal Year 2018; this gave me hope and the means to get input from people who know some things. A good outcome: I love writing again.

columns

I wrote weekly columns for Mobile, Alabama’s newspaper, The Mobile Register, from 1997 to mid-2002. I also covered human interest stories and learned to take newsy photos. I did fire ant calls at the Fire Ant Festival, interviewed parents who lost children and kept going, and met teachers who brought art to a demoralized school system with fine results. It was a dream job.

in progress

My first novel, I’ll Come Following You, needs a lot of work. I plan to rewrite/revise it when I finish my third novel, A Kind of Love.
